Beacof Medical Centre (BMC) is a growing private healthcare facility serving the communities of Masaka City and Sembabule Town. We are committed to delivering compassionate, quality and affordable healthcare, and we are looking for a dedicated and competent Medical Officer to join our team at our Sembabule Town work station.

About the role

As a Medical Officer at Beacof Medical Centre, you will be responsible for the day-to-day clinical care of our patients. You will work closely with our nursing and support teams to ensure that every patient who walks through our doors receives prompt, professional and dignified treatment. This is a full-time position based at our Sembabule Town work station, and you will be part of a facility that values teamwork, integrity and service.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive outpatient and inpatient care to patients, including consultation, examination, diagnosis and treatment of common and complex medical conditions;
  • Conduct minor and major surgical procedures as per your level of training, competence and the facility's scope of practice;
  • Carry out and interpret routine investigations, prescribe appropriate medication and provide follow-up care;
  • Manage medical emergencies and stabilise patients before referral where necessary;
  • Supervise, guide and mentor nursing staff, clinical officers and support staff to maintain high standards of patient care;
  • Maintain accurate, complete and up-to-date patient records in line with professional and legal requirements;
  • Participate in ward rounds, morning handovers and clinical audits;
  • Educate patients and their families on disease prevention, treatment plans and healthy living;
  • Ensure infection prevention and control (IPC) protocols are observed at all times;
  • Support the facility leadership with health programme implementation, reporting and quality improvement initiatives;
  • Adhere to the professional code of conduct and ethical standards of the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council (UMDPC).

Qualifications and requirements

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB/MBBS) or its equivalent from a recognised university;
  • Must be registered and licensed with the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council (UMDPC) with a valid practising licence;
  • At least one year of clinical experience in a hospital or health centre setting is an added advantage;
  • Strong clinical knowledge and sound decision-making skills;
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle emergencies calmly;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Compassion, empathy and a patient-centred approach to care;
  • Proficiency in basic computer use and patient records management is an added advantage;
  • Willingness to work in Sembabule Town and to be flexible with working hours, including weekends and public holidays as the roster requires.
