Lubega Institute of Nursing and Health Professionals in Iganga Municipality is hiring a female Medical Officer with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) and at least one year of experience in a reputable medical training institute or relevant health training field to lead its institute health unit.
About the role Lubega Institute of Nursing and Health Professionals, located at Iganga Municipality - Busei, off the Jinja-Malaba Highway, is hiring. The Institute is committed to providing quality education at the most affordable cost and invites applications from qualified individuals to fill the position of Medical Officer (Female) - 1 post. The successful candidate will provide medical care and clinical oversight to support the health of students and staff within the Institute and its training environment.
This full-time role offers an opportunity to work within a health training institution, where the Medical Officer will combine clinical practice with the health needs of learners, staff and the surrounding community, while supporting the Institute's commitment to excellence in healthcare education. The Medical Officer will operate the Institute's health unit, managing consultations and treatment, supervising nursing staff, and promoting preventive health within the campus community.
Because the Institute trains future health professionals, the Medical Officer also serves as a professional role model for students, demonstrating the standards of clinical care, ethics and patient communication that the Institute aims to instil in its graduates. This adds a meaningful mentoring dimension to the clinical role.
Key responsibilities Providing medical consultations and treatment for students, staff and other clients of the institute health unit; Managing common illnesses and providing emergency care where required; Supervising and guiding nursing staff within the health unit; Promoting preventive care and health education within the institute community; Maintaining accurate medical records and ensuring the availability of medicines and supplies; Liaising with other health facilities for referrals when necessary; Supporting health promotion activities and wellness programmes at the Institute.
Qualifications, skills and experience A Bachelor's degree in Medicine and Surgery from a recognised institution; At least one (1) year of working experience in a reputable medical training institute or a relevant health training field; Registration with the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council with a valid practising licence; Strong clinical, communication and interpersonal skills, and a commitment to quality, ethical patient care; The ability to mentor junior staff and work collaboratively within a team.
