The Master of Science in Health Professions Education (MHPE) is a fully funded degree at the University of Global Health Equity (UGHE) in Rwanda, offered through the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program.
## About this scholarship The 18-month, blended (online and in-person) MHPE trains African health professionals to become stronger educators, aiming to improve the quality of health-worker training across the continent. It is fully funded for Mastercard Foundation Scholars, with priority given to young women, refugees and persons with disabilities.
## Who can apply - Applicants must be residents and citizens of, or hold refugee status in, an African country. - Applicants must be 35 years old or under at the time of application (exceptions apply for applicants with disabilities). - Applicants must hold a Bachelor's degree in a health-related field; applicants who already hold a Master's degree are not eligible. - Professional teaching, supervision or educational leadership experience in health higher education is preferable but not mandatory for early-career applicants. - Applicants who are currently employed must provide a signed and stamped recommendation letter confirming institutional support and dedicated time for the programme.
## What it covers - Tuition and academic fees. - Accommodation and meals during in-person sessions. - A monthly living stipend. - Return economy flights to campus for in-person sessions. - Study materials and a laptop. - Mentoring and leadership-development support.
## How to apply Applicants submit a single, complete online application; incomplete or multiple submissions are rejected. Required documents include a passport, national ID or refugee ID; academic transcripts; degree certificate; and an employer recommendation letter if currently employed.
## Key dates (most recent cycle) - Applications opened: 22 October 2025. - Applications closed: 30 November 2025, 11:59 PM CAT. - Admissions interviews: December 2025. - Final decisions: January 2026.
## Programme structure The MHPE runs for 18 months (three semesters, 180 credits) with no partial-completion exit options; the MSc is the only award granted on completion.
