Commonwealth Scholarships (Uganda)

The Commonwealth Scholarships are the UK Government's primary international scholarship scheme, delivered by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) with the British Council supporting outreach in Uganda. The scheme attracts outstanding talent to UK universities while supporting sustainable development overseas. About the programme Commonwealth Scholarships enable talented individuals from Commonwealth countries, including Uganda, to pursue full-time postgraduate study in the United Kingdom. Award levels and benefits Commonwealth Scholarships support full-time study at Master's and PhD level in the UK. Awards cover tuition fees, living costs and an airfare for the duration of the award, removing the financial barriers that would otherwise prevent talented applicants from studying abroad. Scholars study at leading UK universities across a wide range of disciplines that contribute to development in their home countries, including public health, education, science, engineering and social sciences. Eligibility To be eligible, applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of an eligible Commonwealth country, such as Uganda; hold at least an upper second-class (2:1) undergraduate honours degree (and a Master's degree for PhD study); and be unable to afford to study in the UK without the award. Awards are made on the basis of academic merit, development impact and the applicant's potential to contribute to their home country. Guidance for Ugandan applicants is provided by the British Council in Uganda, which supports outreach, information and awareness of the scheme for prospective applicants.
