China's flagship fully funded scholarship for degree study — the Chinese Embassy in Uganda explicitly recruits Ugandan citizens for Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral programmes. Covers tuition, accommodation, monthly stipend, medical insurance and airfare, with a Uganda application window each autumn.

## About the scholarship The Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS) is China's flagship full scholarship, administered by the China Scholarship Council (CSC) on behalf of the Ministry of Education of China. The Chinese Embassy in Uganda explicitly welcomes citizens of Uganda to apply, and China has provided scholarships for Ugandan students since the 1980s. It funds full degree programmes — Bachelor, Master and Doctoral — at participating Chinese universities through two routes: (1) the bilateral/embassy route via the Chinese Embassy in Uganda, and (2) the university-direct route via the CSC online system. Uganda's Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) coordinates nominations for the bilateral track.

## What it covers For the embassy (bilateral) route the award includes: full tuition fees; on-campus accommodation; a monthly living allowance (stipend); comprehensive medical insurance; and international airfare for travel to China and the return trip on completion. Exact monthly stipend amounts are set by the CSC and vary by level of study — confirm current figures on the CSC system or with the embassy. A separate 'Scholarship for Friendship' covers outstanding postgraduate and doctoral candidates in science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, education and humanities (without international airfare).

## Eligibility - Ugandan citizens (embassy/MoES route) or international students of all nationalities (university-direct route) - Non-Chinese citizens in good health - Education must meet the level of study (high school for bachelor's, bachelor's degree for master's, master's degree for PhD) - Standard CSC age limits apply (approximately under 25 / 35 / 40 for bachelor's / master's / PhD)

## How to apply Apply online via the CSC Information System at studyinchina.csc.edu.cn, selecting the Chinese Embassy in Uganda as the agency. Also watch the Uganda MoES Scholarships page for the bilateral advert. The 2027/28 window is expected around October–December 2026.
