## About the program The Regional Leadership Center East Africa (RLC EA) is the East African hub of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI). Located at Kenyatta University in Nairobi, Kenya, the Center nurtures emerging leaders from 14 East and Central African countries — including Uganda — through a 4-week intensive residential program. Participants build leadership, civic-engagement and entrepreneurship skills through a learner-centered curriculum combining static and virtual instruction, group discussions, mentoring and hands-on activities.
## What it offers The program is 100% free: there are no application fees, program fees, or hidden costs. The residential portion provides housing in university hostels (shared rooms) and most meals at campus cafeterias. Participants get a powerful regional network of young leaders, mentorship, and — per the Center's FAQ — incidental expenses (entertainment, alcohol, personal internet) are the only items not covered. Alumni gain access to ongoing programming including mentorship and grants opportunities through the Center.
## Eligibility - Aged 18-35 - Citizen or resident of one of the 14 target countries (Uganda included) - Demonstrate English proficiency - Demonstrated leadership and community-impact experience - Commit to the full 4-week program and be able to obtain travel documents to Kenya - Merit-based open competition: applications reviewed by a panel, semi-finalists interviewed, finalists invited
## How to apply Applications are submitted online through the RLC EA admissions portal (mis.rlceastafrica.org) when a cohort opens; new cohort dates are announced periodically. There is no fee to apply.
