African Development Bank (AfDB) & Government of Japan

Share
Location
Japan (partner universities incl. Univ. of Tokyo, Kyoto, APU, Sophia, Hiroshima)
Deadline
Rolling

Fully funded two-year master's scholarships in Japan covering tuition, monthly stipend, airfare and insurance; health is an eligible field. Apply through partner universities - e.g., Ritsumeikan APU's April 2027 intake closes September 15, 2026.

JADS builds African human-resources capacity aligned with AfDB's High 5 priorities; scholars must return home after graduation to contribute to national development. There is no direct application to AfDB: candidates apply for admission to a JADS partner university, request scholarship consideration within that application, and the university endorses shortlisted candidates to the Bank. Coverage includes full tuition, a living stipend, round-trip travel, and limited support for research and internship-related costs. For example, APU requires scholarship requests by 15 September 2026 for April 2027 enrollment; other partner universities set their own comparable dates through early 2027.

Eligibility

Nationals of AfDB regional member countries (incl. Uganda) aged 35 or under with a bachelor's degree, at least one year of relevant work experience, and admission to an eligible master's programme at a JADS partner university.

Key dates

Partner-university deadlines run Sept 2026 - Jan 2027

How to apply
