Hands-On Manuscript Writing Workshop for Nurses and Midwives in Uganda

The Global Research Nurses (GRN) and The Global Health Network (TGHN), with support from the Burdett Trust for Nursing, are pleased to invite nurses and midwives in Uganda to apply for a one-day hands-on workshop titled 'Turning Research into Publications: Hands-On Manuscript Writing Workshop for Nurses and Midwives in Uganda'. This workshop aims to strengthen the capacity of nurses and midwives in scientific writing and publication, equipping participants with practical skills to transform research findings into high-quality manuscripts.

Target audience The workshop is open to nurses and midwives from research institutions, training institutions, Master's and PhD programs, and those in leadership or managerial roles. It is designed to support the growing research-active nursing and midwifery community in Uganda to convert their research into published, peer-reviewed work.

What participants will learn By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to: understand the manuscript development and publication process; identify the structure and components of a scientific manuscript; apply principles of clear, concise academic writing; draft key sections of a manuscript; recognize and avoid common errors in writing; navigate the submission and peer-review process; and strengthen collaboration and authorship practices.

The workshop is free of charge, and participants will receive a certificate of attendance. Organizers kindly request that this announcement be shared widely through networks and communication channels to reach interested nurses and midwives across Uganda.

Why this workshop matters Nurses and midwives generate and participate in a great deal of research, yet their work is often underrepresented in the scientific literature. Publishing research findings is essential for sharing knowledge, improving practice, informing policy, and advancing professional recognition and career development. This workshop is designed to close that gap by giving participants practical, hands-on training in writing and submitting manuscripts. Because the workshop is free of charge and offers a certificate of attendance, it is an accessible professional development opportunity for nursing and midwifery professionals at all stages of their careers. Participants will leave with the confidence and tools to draft their own manuscripts and to guide colleagues in scientific writing, helping to build a stronger research culture within the nursing and midwifery community in Uganda. Spaces may be limited, so early registration is strongly encouraged.

Note on eligibility and logistics The workshop is conducted in English, and participants should plan to be available for the full day, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM Kampala Time, at Forest Cottages in Kampala. As the workshop is provided free of charge, applicants need only complete the registration form to be considered. Those unable to attend are asked to notify the organizers as early as possible so that places can be offered to others on the waiting list. This workshop is part of broader efforts by the organizing bodies to support research capacity among nurses and midwives globally, and similar opportunities may be offered in the future; nurses and midwives who are interested in research but cannot join this session are encouraged to stay engaged with the organizing networks.
