UNITE is hiring an Assistant Nursing Officer in Kampala to provide quality nursing and midwifery services at its Institute health facility and in the community. Requires a Diploma in Nursing or Midwifery, UNMC registration and a valid practising licence; entry-level.
About the role
The Uganda National Institute for Teacher Education (UNITE) is a Government agency established on 5 July 2024 through Statutory Instrument No. 53 of 2024 under the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act (UOTIA), Cap. 262, as an Other Degree Awarding Institution (ODAI). The Institute trains and develops the country's teaching workforce.
UNITE is seeking an Assistant Nursing Officer to provide quality nursing and midwifery services in the Institute's health facility and within the community. The position holder will deliver compassionate, professional care to staff, students and patients while supporting health promotion within the Institute.
Key responsibilities
- Provide quality nursing and midwifery services.
- Prepare and submit reports.
- Participate in research activities for evidence-based practice.
- Implement nursing protocols.
- Account for supplies and drugs.
- Conduct Primary Health Care (PHC) and health education.
Qualifications, skills and experience
- A Diploma in Midwifery, Nursing, Psychiatric Nursing or Comprehensive Nursing.
- Must be registered with the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council (UNMC) and hold a valid practising licence.
- No prior working experience is required for this entry-level position.
This is an opportunity to deliver hands-on nursing and midwifery care in a higher-education setting, supporting the health and wellbeing of teacher trainees, staff and the surrounding community, while developing skills in community health promotion and primary health care.
Candidates should note the age limit: applicants must be aged at most forty-five (45) years or below at the time of application.
Appointment and tenure
Appointments for salary scales PU1 to PU3 are issued on a contract basis. For salary scales PU4 to PU15, appointments are permanent, subject to the successful completion of a six-month probationary period.

- An application letter; the subject line must indicate the position applied for and the Job Reference Number.
- A detailed and up-to-date signed CV including working contact details, and the names and contact details of three referees (academic, professional and personal), one of whom must be either your present or most recent employer. Referees should be advised to send confidential references directly to the appropriate email address.
- Certified copies of academic transcripts and certificates. All foreign academic qualifications must be equated with the National Council of Higher Education (NCHE).
- A copy of the National Identity Card.
- Copies of previous appointment letters MUST be attached.
- Serving officers MUST attach their current payslips.
The envelope should be clearly marked "Application for the post of ..." as indicated above. Incorrectly addressed applications and those without the above attachments shall be rejected.
