Grants of up to GBP 25,000 (Research Catalyst) and GBP 15,000 (Workshop) to initiate or strengthen Cambridge-Africa research collaborations. The 2026 call closes September 3, 2026.

The ALBORADA Research Fund catalyses new and strengthens existing collaborations between researchers in Africa and Cambridge. Awards support research exchanges, joint projects, equipment and training workshops. Ugandan investigators with Cambridge links (e.g., through Makerere-Cambridge partnerships) can apply jointly for seed funding to develop grant proposals, run pilot studies or host capacity-building workshops. Strong stepping stone toward larger Wellcome/NIHR/EDCTP awards. Queries to alboradafund@cambridge-africa.cam.ac.uk.

Eligibility

Pairs of researchers: one at the University of Cambridge or an affiliated institute (e.g., Wellcome Sanger Institute) and one based at an African institution (any African country, incl. Uganda); post-doctoral level and above; all disciplines.
