UICC Technical Fellowships (Cancer Control)

## About the opportunity The UICC Technical Fellowships (originally launched in 1976 as the ICRETT awards) facilitate the international exchange of technical knowledge and skills in cancer control. They enable cancer professionals from low- and middle-income countries — including Uganda — to undertake short learning visits of two weeks to two months at leading cancer centres and institutions, then transfer that knowledge back to their home organisations.

## What it offers Fellowships fund the costs of the visit: award amounts are calculated by UICC based on the fellowship duration, using published scales for living costs and economy-class flight estimates from the home to host countries. The 2026 call awarded 23 fellowships to cancer professionals from 15 countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and Eastern Europe, drawn from 137 applications across 47 countries. Visits focus on cervical cancer prevention and gynaecologic oncology, lung cancer, radiotherapy, survivorship, adolescent and young adult oncology, diagnostics, palliative care and psychosocial support. Host institutions include the National Cancer Centre Korea, The Christie NHS Foundation Trust (UK), Princess Margaret Cancer Center (Canada), King Hussein Cancer Center (Jordan) and others.

## Eligibility - Public health professionals, cancer researchers, clinicians, nurses or pathologists working in cancer control - Minimum of a Master's degree (qualified medical doctors with board certification, and registered nurses with an RN qualification, are eligible) - At least five years working in the field of cancer - Medical and PhD students are not eligible - Applicants from French-speaking African countries may apply in French through the 'Bourse pour l'Afrique Francophone' option
