Andre Foods International seeks a Nutrition Assistant in Moroto to lead outreach site operations, coordinate treatment outreaches and cash-based transfers, and oversee the accountable distribution of specialised nutritious food. Requires a Diploma and at least 1 year of community nutrition experience.
About the role
Andre Foods International (AFI) is a registered National Non-Governmental Organization (NNGO) in Uganda, pivotal in supporting refugees and vulnerable communities. AFI focuses on a multi-faceted approach to address food insecurity and malnutrition, with a particular presence in the Karamoja region.
AFI is seeking an experienced and qualified candidate to fill the position of Nutrition Assistant, based in Moroto. The Nutrition Assistant will support the delivery of community-based nutrition and food assistance services, including outreach-based treatment of malnutrition, cash-based transfers and the distribution of specialised nutritious food to vulnerable households.
Working within AFI's nutrition programme in Karamoja, the Nutrition Assistant plays a critical front-line role in ensuring that communities receive timely support. The position involves close coordination with community structures, local authorities, traders and programme partners, and requires the ability to work in remote and underserved areas with professionalism and sensitivity.
Key responsibilities
- Outreach site planning and oversight: lead the planning, setup and supervision of outreach sites, ensuring smooth process flow and operational efficiency.
- Activity coordination: manage and coordinate all activities at treatment outreaches to guarantee effective service delivery.
- Trader linkages for CBT sites: establish and maintain connections with traders to support Cash-Based Transfer (CBT) operations.
- Reporting and reconciliation: generate comprehensive site reports after reconciliation with WFP-IDM and the financial service provider.
- Food delivery and accountability: coordinate the delivery of specialised nutritious food and ensure full accountability in handling and distribution.
The role involves regular movement between communities and outreach sites in and around Moroto, working closely with community structures, traders and programme partners to ensure timely, well-documented service delivery. Strong reporting discipline and attention to accountability are central to the position, as every distribution and cash-based transfer must be accurately captured and reconciled. Candidates should be prepared for field work in remote settings and for close engagement with beneficiaries, local leaders and partner staff.
Qualifications, skills and experience
- Minimum of a Diploma in Community Nutrition, Social Work or any other relevant field.
- At least one (1) year of proven experience in community-based food assistance, nutrition programming or related programme implementation.
- Proficiency in English is required; knowledge of any local Karamojong dialect is strongly preferred.
The ideal candidate is practical, organised and comfortable working in a community setting, with a good understanding of cash-based transfers, food distribution and the reporting requirements of nutrition programmes. Experience working with refugees, internally displaced persons or vulnerable host communities, and familiarity with WFP systems, will support effective delivery in this role.
Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews.
