About the role

The Uganda National Institute for Teacher Education (UNITE) is a Government agency established on 5 July 2024 through Statutory Instrument No. 53 of 2024 under the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act (UOTIA), Cap. 262, as an Other Degree Awarding Institution (ODAI). The Institute is mandated to train and develop the country's teaching workforce.

UNITE is seeking a Medical Clinical Officer to work in the Institute Medical Unit in Kampala. The position holder will diagnose, treat and manage patients within the Institute, ensuring that staff, students and the wider Institute community receive quality, professional clinical care.

Key responsibilities

• Implement the Uganda Minimum Health Care Package within the Institute.
• Prepare and submit clinical health care reports to the Campus Dean.
• Participate in planning, budgeting, monitoring and evaluation of clinical work.
• Participate in continuous professional development activities.
• Provide health education to staff, students and patients.
• Participate in research activities and health data collection.
• Enforce professional and service codes of conduct and ethics.

Qualifications, skills and experience

• Must hold a Diploma in Clinical Medicine from a recognised Health Training Institution.
• Must be registered with the Allied Health Professionals Council and hold a valid practising licence.
• No prior working experience is required for this entry-level position.

Candidates should note the age limit: applicants must be aged at most forty-five (45) years or below at the time of application.

Appointment and tenure

Appointments for salary scales PU1 to PU3 are issued on a contract basis. For salary scales PU4 to PU15, appointments are permanent, subject to the successful completion of a six-month probationary period.

• Certified copies of academic transcripts and certificates. All foreign academic qualifications must be equated with the National Council of Higher Education (NCHE).
• A copy of the National Identity Card.
• Copies of previous appointment letters MUST be attached.
• Serving officers MUST attach their current payslips.
