Fogarty LAUNCH Global Health Research Training Program

The Global Health Program for Fellows and Scholars / Launching Future Leaders in Global Health Research Training Program (LAUNCH), run by the Fogarty International Center of the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH), supports one-year mentored research training in global health at established biomedical and health research institutions and project sites in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Uganda is one of several partner sites for the programme. About the programme LAUNCH builds on the successes and experiences of the Fogarty Global Health Training Program (2017-2022). The programme provides opportunities to predoctoral and pre-professional trainees from the U.S., and postdoctoral and post-professional trainees from the U.S. and LMICs, supporting a cohort of early-career researchers to develop skills in global health research at partner sites across the world. Trainees spend a year embedded in established biomedical and health research institutions, working alongside experienced mentors on research that addresses pressing health challenges in low-resource settings. Training consortia Fogarty currently supports LAUNCH consortia, each with its own unique training programme and application process. Consortia include ACHIEVE (addressing research capacity gaps in global child and adolescent health), INSIGHT, the Northern Pacific Global Health Leadership, Education, and Development for Early-Career Researchers (NPGH LEADERs), the Partnership for Global Health Research Training Program (HBNU), the UJMT Global Consortium, and the University of California Global Health Institute Program for Fellows and Scholars (GLOCAL). Each consortium brings together U.S. universities and LMIC partner institutions to deliver mentored research training. Uganda as a partner site Uganda is one of several partner sites for the programme, hosting LAUNCH trainees at leading research and health institutions in the country. These sites provide a rich environment for mentored research on infectious diseases, maternal and child health, non-communicable diseases, mental health and other priorities relevant to low-resource settings. Eligibility Eligibility for trainee opportunities is set by each consortium and published on the consortium websites. Predoctoral and pre-professional trainees from the U.S., and postdoctoral and post-professional trainees from the U.S. and LMICs, are eligible to apply through the consortium that hosts the site where they wish to train. How to apply Applications from potential trainees are made directly through one of the LAUNCH consortia, each of which runs its own training programme and application process with deadlines published on its website.
