The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University offers fully funded scholarships to academically talented young people from Sub-Saharan Africa whose access to higher education is constrained by social and economic barriers. The programme is delivered at Makerere University Main Campus in Kampala under the Private Sponsorship Scheme. About the programme In its second phase (2024-2034), the programme will support 1,000 scholars over ten years. For the 2026/2027 academic year, 245 undergraduate and 13 Master's scholarships have been announced at Makerere University Main Campus. The programme is designed not only to fund study but to develop the next generation of ethical, entrepreneurial leaders who will drive inclusive growth and positive social change across the continent. It targets academically talented young people who have the potential to lead but whose access to higher education is limited by social and economic barriers. Eligibility Eligible categories include refugees or internally displaced persons, young persons with disabilities, international students, young people living in refugee host communities, young people from underrepresented ethnic groups in Uganda, and other Ugandan youth.
