Six-month funded training in pathogen detection, genomic surveillance, AMR, vaccine/biologics development and biosecurity, with monthly stipend (EUR 1,500 Trieste / US$1,122 New Delhi / ZAR 16,500 Cape Town). Full application stage: September 16-30, 2026.

Topics include molecular and point-of-care diagnostics, epidemiology and genomic surveillance, host-pathogen interactions, drug discovery, vaccine development, antimicrobial resistance, biosafety/biosecurity and biomanufacturing. Supported by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAECI) specifically for African scientists. Note: Expression of Interest stage closed August 14, 2026; shortlisted candidates submit full applications September 16-30, 2026. Ideal for Ugandan lab scientists and public health laboratory professionals seeking advanced molecular training.

Eligibility

Nationals of African countries (incl. Uganda) affiliated with a research institute, university or public health laboratory in their home country; BSc(Hons)+ for Trieste/Cape Town, MSc for New Delhi; commitment to apply skills at home institution.
