About the role The Ibanda District Local Government, through the Ibanda District Service Commission, invites applications from suitably qualified Ugandans to fill the vacant post of Assistant Nursing Officer - Psychiatry under External and Internal Job Advert No. 01/2026 of August 1, 2026. The position exists within Ibanda District Local Government and Ibanda Municipal Council.
The Assistant Nursing Officer (Psychiatry) will provide specialised nursing care to patients with mental health conditions, contributing to the delivery of mental health services within the district. This full-time position offers an opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of people living with mental illness and their families.
Mental health care requires patience, empathy and specialised knowledge, and the successful candidate will work within the district health system to support patients through treatment, rehabilitation and community reintegration. The role also involves counselling patients and families, administering psychiatric medication, and promoting mental health awareness, all of which are essential to reducing stigma and improving access to mental health services in the community.
Key responsibilities Providing specialised nursing care to patients with mental health conditions; Administering psychiatric medication and treatments as prescribed; Counseling patients and their families on mental health and coping strategies; Promoting mental health awareness and rehabilitation in the community; Monitoring patient progress and reporting to the health team; Maintaining accurate and confidential patient records; Supporting follow-up and continuity of care for patients after discharge.
Qualifications and requirements Applicants must be suitably qualified Ugandans meeting the requirements of the LG Job Specifications and Description (2011) for the post of Assistant Nursing Officer - Psychiatry.
