Position Summary

The Enrolled Nurse will deliver safe, competent and compassionate basic nursing care to clients at Healing Grace Medical Center, working under the guidance of the Registered Nurse and Clinical Officer. The post holder will provide high-quality, caring, Christ-centred service while maintaining professional nursing standards and adhering to the code of conduct set by the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical and client care - Welcome clients, assist with triage, and record vital signs, weight and basic clinical observations accurately. - Provide basic bedside care, including hygiene, feeding assistance, positioning and comfort measures. - Administer prescribed medication, injections and immunisations under appropriate supervision. - Assist with wound care, dressing changes and other basic clinical procedures. - Support antenatal, postnatal, child health, immunisation and family planning clinics. - Help with emergency care and client stabilisation, and promptly report any change in a client's condition. - Educate clients and caregivers on hygiene, medication use, nutrition and self-care, and offer holistic physical, emotional and spiritual support where appropriate and welcomed. - Follow infection prevention and control procedures strictly and handle sharps and clinical waste safely.

Administrative duties - Keep accurate and confidential client records and complete nursing notes, vital-sign charts and vaccination records. - Assist with daily and weekly nursing returns and statistics, and monitor medical and nursing supplies, reporting shortages or expiring items. - Help clean, sterilise, use and safely store equipment. - Support appointment scheduling, home visits and follow-up care. - Comply with clinic policies, national health regulations and data protection standards, and help prepare clinic records and facilities for inspections, audits and health-authority visits.

Customer care and relationships - Serve clients with warmth, respect, dignity and patience, and communicate clearly with clients and caregivers. - Remain calm and reassuring with anxious or vulnerable clients, and help manage client flow and waiting areas efficiently. - Listen to client concerns and complaints and refer them appropriately, and protect client confidentiality at all times. - Maintain good working relationships with colleagues, management, suppliers and visiting partners, and represent the clinic courteously in the community.

Teamwork and professional development - Work closely with Registered Nurses, Clinical Officers, midwives, laboratory technicians, pharmacy staff and community health workers. - Take part in clinical team meetings, case reviews and quality improvement activities. - Attend Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) sessions, keep professional licensing and certification current, and stay updated on relevant nursing practice and national health guidelines.

Other duties as assigned by the Registered Nurse, Clinical Officer or administration.

Requirements - Certificate in Enrolled Nursing from a recognised and accredited institution. - Valid registration and practising licence with the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council. - One to two years of nursing experience; experience in primary care, rural or community health settings is preferred. - Good understanding of basic nursing procedures, maternal and child health, and common health conditions in the local community. - Strong communication, record-keeping and customer-care skills, with the ability to remain calm and effective under pressure and during emergencies. - Basic computer literacy and willingness to use health information systems such as HMIS/DHIS2 are added advantages.
